Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
What is the process and timeline for students to receive the Chicago STAR Scholarship at Loyola University Chicago?
Students should apply for transfer to Loyola University Chicago during their sophomore year (3rd or 4th semester) at the City Colleges of Chicago. The free transfer application can be submitted online at
luc.edu/apply. Students typically receive a decision within two weeks from the date we have received the students transfer application and CCC transcript.
Do students receive the award conditionally or only after submitting their final transcript?
The scholarship is initially awarded conditionally. Students will be informed in their acceptance letter that they are eligible for the $5,000 annual Loyola STAR Scholarship Award. However, the scholarship will only be applied to their account after Loyola receives a final transcript confirming the completion of an Associate of Arts (AA) or Associate of Science (AS) degree.
How and when is the award reflected in the student’s financial aid portal and award letter?
The scholarship will be reflected in the student’s financial aid portal and award letter after Loyola University Chicago receives the final transcript and verifies the completion of the AA or AS degree. If the student has already been awarded a grant from Loyola based on financial need, the amount may be adjusted since the STAR Scholarship will cover part of the demonstrated financial need.
