2017 Digital Storytelling Workshop Application

Loyola University Chicago School of Communication
High School Digital Storytelling Workshop Application

The High School Digital Storytelling Workshop is a six-day, hands-on workshop hosted by the School of Communication (SOC) at Loyola University Chicago for rising high school juniors and seniors interested in communication.

Students from across the country join SOC faculty, staff, and Loyola undergraduates for a week of intensive digital media and journalism training. Participants spend the mornings in the classrooms learning the basics of audio, video, and reporting before hitting the streets of Chicago's neighborhoods to put their newfound skills to the test. A dedicated portion of the week involves exploring neighborhoods and putting together packages to tell the stories of the people and places of our city. Students stay in the residence halls on our Water Tower Campus, DJ live on our campus radio station WLUW 88.7 FM, produce a newscast in our Convergence Studio, and explore Chicago events in the evenings.

Taught by School of Communication expert instructors and mentored by Loyola undergraduates, students will leave the week with an exposure to emerging technology, university life and digital media skills. The workshop costs just $425 to attend (valued at $1,000 a person) and includes accommodation and meals. Come learn, work and live with the School of Communication this summer!

The application deadline is Saturday, April 15, 2017.
