Loyola University Chicago (LUC) Star Scholars Program Application

Loyola University Chicago offers the Loyola Chicago STAR Scholar award in partnership with the City Colleges of Chicago. Students must be enrolled at one of the City Colleges of Chicago in an Associate of Arts (AA) or Associate of Science (AS) or another qualifying degree or certificate program.

What remains unchanged
Chicago Star Scholarship Recipients from the City Colleges of Chicago may still transfer to LUC after completing an AA, AS or AAS degree and be considered for merit based scholarship at the time of application.

Eligible students who previously completed this application will still receive the $5,000 LUC Star Scholarship upon transfer if they meet the minimum 3.0 transfer GPA requirement.

Loyola University offers $5,000 per year for two years stacked on top a merit scholarship between $20,000 and $28,000 annually.

What is the process and timeline for students to receive the Chicago STAR Scholarship at Loyola University Chicago?

Students should apply for transfer to Loyola University Chicago during their sophomore year (3rd or 4th semester) at the City Colleges of Chicago. The free transfer application can be submitted online at luc.edu/apply. Students typically receive a decision within two weeks from the date we have received the students transfer application and CCC transcript.

Do students receive the award conditionally or only after submitting their final transcript?

The scholarship is initially awarded conditionally. Students will be informed in their acceptance letter that they are eligible for the $5,000 annual Loyola STAR Scholarship Award. However, the scholarship will only be applied to their account after Loyola receives a final transcript confirming the completion of an Associate of Arts (AA) or Associate of Science (AS) degree.

How and when is the award reflected in the student’s financial aid portal and award letter?

The scholarship will be reflected in the student’s financial aid portal and award letter after Loyola University Chicago receives the final transcript and verifies the completion of the AA or AS degree. If the student has already been awarded a grant from Loyola based on financial need, the amount may be adjusted since the STAR Scholarship will cover part of the demonstrated financial need.

By submitting this form, I understand:

I must enroll at any of the seven City Colleges of Chicago in coursework that meets Loyola University Chicago (LUC) transfer requirements. In addition, I must submit this participation form at least one semester prior to enrolling at LUC.

I must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale on both all transferable coursework taken at the City Colleges of Chicago with no grade lower than a “B” in the transferable coursework.

By participating in this program and submitting this form, I grant Loyola University Chicago and my community college listed in this agreement permission as required by law, including those related to, but limited to, the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (“FERPA”), to City College of Chicago and Loyola University Chicago to disclose between the parties your educational records, including but not limited to, transcripts, academics, admission, financial aid, and advising information as appropriate. By signing the participation form, you agree to allow the institutions to share these data.

If you do not meet the minimal requirements for eligibility as outlined you still may be considered for general transfer admission to Loyola University Chicago.
