Loyola Orientation 2020

Orientation Schedule

Loyola University Chicago Orientation (LUCO) is a summer-long virtual experience comprised of a variety of online opportunities to introduce you and your family to academic and student life at Loyola. Over the summer, you will learn about the many programs and services that are available to you as a Loyola student and connect with classmates. Orientation Leaders will share their Loyola Experience with you, answer your questions, and do their best to ensure your smooth transition into the Loyola community! LUCO will begin with online Orientation Kickoff Events on Friday, June 5.

FRESHMAN ORIENTATION

After participating in the Orientation Kickoff Events, all new freshmen are required to register for and participate in an Orientation Week (except Honors students, who have different requirements). On Monday of your Orientation week, check your Loyola email for messages from your Orientation Leader and Orientation Academic Advisor. Here is the Orientation Week schedule:

During your Orientation Week, your Orientation Academic Advisor will send your personalized course recommendations for the fall semester. You can follow-up with them via email with questions. They will register you in classes after your Orientation Week, and you will be able to request academically necessary changes at any point between your Orientation Week and the start of fall classes.

After your Orientation Week, your Orientation Leader will invite you to join a Facebook Group to stay connected with them and your small group, and connect with other new students. Throughout the summer, you will have the opportunity to participate in LUC Resource Webinars, small group discussions about getting involved at Loyola, spirit weeks on social media and much more! Follow us on Instagram (@luc_fye) to stay informed!

Students in the Interdisciplinary Honors Program and Quinlan School of Business Honors Program can learn more information about advising and registration on the Student Portal. After you have submitted your Honors Advising Form, you will receive an email from the Honors Program Academic Advisors with personalized course recommendations. Your advisor will register you in classes in late June. To learn more about Loyola’s Undergraduate and Honors Curriculum, and the advising and registration process, join the Honors Orientation Overview Webinar on Monday, June 8 at 4:30PM CT.

Honors Students do not need to participate in a full Orientation Week, though you are required to register and participate in a 90-minute Orientation Small Group Discussion with an Orientation Leader and other new Honors students the week of July 6-10 to discuss transitioning to college and to get to know other new students!

After your Orientation Small Group Discussion, your Orientation Leader will invite you to join a Facebook Group to stay connected with them and your small group, and connect with other new students. Throughout the summer, you will have the opportunity to participate in LUC Resource Webinars, small group discussions about getting involved at Loyola, spirit weeks on social media, and much more! Follow us on Instagram (@luc_fye) to stay informed.

After participating in the Orientation Kickoff Events, all transfer students are required to complete the following:

  1. Participate in an online Academic Advising Appointment with an academic advisor over Zoom, and register for classes online in LOCUS. Academic Advising Appointments will be available all summer. Students will be able to register for classes on or after June 22.

  2. Participate in an online Small Group Discussion with an Orientation Leader and a small group of other new transfer students over Zoom to discuss transitioning to academic and student life at Loyola. These 90-minute discussions are available July 6-10 and July 20-24.

After your Orientation Week, your Orientation Leader will invite you to join a Facebook Group to stay connected with them and your small group, and connect with other new students. Throughout the summer, you will have the opportunity to participate in LUC Resource Webinars, small group discussions about getting involved at Loyola, spirit weeks on social media, and much more! Follow us on Instagram (@luc_fye) to stay informed!

Parents and family members are encouraged to participate in the online Orientation Kickoff Events on Friday, June 5, the Orientation Overview Webinars, and the LUC Resource Webinars throughout the summer. We encourage you to connect with your student and discuss your experiences as you plan for their transition to starting classes at Loyola this fall.

Faculty, staff, undergraduate Orientation Leaders, and other parents and family members will share their Loyola Experience, answer your questions, and ensure your smooth transition into the Loyola community! To support you and your student, we will be sharing resources via a parent/family newsletter that will begin in July, and share resources and opportunities on Instagram (@luc_fye). If you ever have questions, please email New Student Programs at parents@luc.edu.
